Trakstar Tractors: A Brief History

Gromax Agri Equipment Limited, a joint venture by the Gujarat government and Mahindra & Mahindra, manufactures the high-quality Trakstar tractors. The brand proudly showcases 70+ Years of Agricultural Cooperative and a user base of over 25,000 happy customers. The brand was founded in 1946 by Pashabhai Patel, a businessman and politician and dealt with the importation, sale, and maintenance of machinery such as ploughs, tractors, and bulldozers.

In 1965, the company's name was changed to Hindustan Tractors & Bulldozers Ltd. In 1967, the company name was changed again to Hindustan Tractors Ltd. The Gujarat government took over the company in 1972 as part of the Nationalisation Programme and rebranded it as M/S Gujarat Tractor Corporation Ltd.  

M&M bought a 51% share in the company in 1999, which was raised to 60% in 2000. The company was renamed Mahindra Gujarat Tractors Ltd. (MGTL). In 2017, the Mahindra Group launched a new marketing strategy to sell Trakstar tractors, and the company's name was eventually changed to Gromax Agri Equipment Limited. The manufacturing plant of Trakstar tractors spans 55 acres and is located in Vadodara, Gujarat.
