Disc Harrow Implements

A disc harrow is used as a secondary tillage implement that pulverizes the soil by shattering the soil clods formed due to ploughing. It also uproots weeds and turns the soil to mix organic matter. What are the Different Types of Disc Harrow? 

• Single Action: These harrows have two gangs. Their end-to-end placement ensures that the soil is thrown in opposite directions. Due to its disc arrangement, the gang on the right-side flings soil in the right direction, while the left side gang does the same in the left direction.
• Double Action: These harrows have two or more gangs. One or two gangs form a set of front gangs. A set of back gangs follows them. Due to these front and back gangs, every trip of the harrow works the field twice. Double action disc harrows are further categorized into: 
  • Tandem Disc Harrow: This harrow has four gangs, and every gang can be positioned in the opposite direction.
  • Off-set Disc Harrow: There are two gangs in this harrow in tandem with each other. This type is ideal for use in gardens and orchards.
